Hi,
The 09 BMX racing season kicks off this coming weekend with the first of the E.A. Inter-regionals at Derby. The track has been recently re-vamped and I'm pleased to say they've made an awsome job of it!
Norwich Regional Race April 5th
For those of you that have not raced before here are a few pointers. .
You will need to be at the track to register to race before 11.am. Registration will be held at the Norwich Flyers gazeebo.
It costs £8.00 for experts and £5.00 for novices.
You will need to bring all neccesary safety equipment, the club has full face helmets and numberplates that we can lend to you if needed.
All under 16's wishing to race should be accompanied by and Adult/Guardian.
British Cycling Memberships
If you intend to race ANY of the summer regional rounds this year (including the Norwich Regional on April 5th) at any level other than novice you will require a British Cycling silver membership. Unlike previous years if you donot have a memebership you won't be allowed to race
Obtaining a membership is easy and usually free of charge (it's totally free to the under 16's and we can get a discounted rate for the older club members) Go to British Cycling's Membership page and fill out the form here> http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/bcf/membership_type_check.asp (click on the Club Member button and then proceed)
Remember if you are only intending to race at regional level you only need a sliver membership (if you plan to race at National level then you will be requiring a race license as well).
Please remember to put yourself down as a member of Norwich Flyers BMX club.
If all this is too confusing (I'm a bit mystified myself!) please give me a ring on 07917274185 and I will sort it all out for you. Do it soon though as the race is drawing near and we don't want anybody to be disappointed.
Ipswich Winter regional @ Royston
As mentioned in my previous post the cancelled Ipswich Regional has been re-scheduled for Sunday March 29th. The race has also been moved to the Royston track.Just to add to the confusion a little more, with this being a winter not a Summer round you will not be required to hold a British Cycling Membership to race this event!

Ipswich Winter Regional re-scheduled
The cancelled last round of this years Winter series has been re scheduled for March 29th.
At time of posting the race is planned to be held at the Ipswich track but with still quite a bit of surface water hanging around the venue may yet be switched to Royston.
Stayed tuned and we'll update you with the confirmed venue just as soon as we know.

Ipswich winter regional cancelled !
Due to the horrendous amount of wet weather we have had recently, our friends over at Ipswich BMX Club have had to cancel their round of the winter regional series scheduled for this coming Sunday (FEB 15th).
The Ipswich track is currently flooded, added to which the council understandably don't wish to risk the park getting cut up from cars parking on the grass.
No word yet if the event is to be re-scheduled or not at time of posting.

2009 National Dates & Venues Confirmed

Here's the blurb from British Cycling..
For 2009 BMX will see a new look National Series format, with 10 rounds at five venues chosen by the BMX regions. The venues are Derby, Burnham, Peterborough, Manchester and Bournemouth.
11-12 April: Round 1 and 2 will be held at Derby's revamped Alvaston Park track. The track is technical and long, a real lung buster for the Easter weekend.
23-24 May: Round 3 and 4: Burnham has consistently provided top class events in recent years, so the BMX National Series will be revisiting this popular venue on Spring Bank Holiday.
6-7 June: Round 5 and 6: Following a very successful Brits in 2008, Peterborough is back on the national calendar in June
8-9 August: Round 7 and 8: Manchester's new track at Fallowfield gets an early opportunity to show what Sport England funding can do for BMX racing. This great facility in a beautiful park should be a real hit.
29-30 August: Round 9 and 10: A welcome return to sunny Bournemouth over the August bank holiday should round off the national season with style.
For more detailed info, including new block race format click here
Other Events
2009 International 26-28 June - Round 13-14 - Cheddar
It's taken sometime to achieve, but it looks like Cheddar's future is secure for the next few years. Expect a revamped track in time for the Euro invasion. Early discussion point toward this event being televised.
2009 Britsh Championships 19-20 September - Cheddar
There's no better way of ending the season than racing at the best facility the UK has to offer. The Brits make a welcome return to Cheddar after a break of 4 years.
